Chapter 8

It’s been about a week since Rela and I decided to try and make this thing work between us again. I promised her that I would do right and nothing or no bitch would knock me off my square again. I decided to meet up with the case worker who called me about Pumpkins kids. I had been doing a lot of thinking and I was wrong for how I acted when I found out that I had another kid. Those babies didn’t ask to be born. I rolled over and pulled Zarela closer to me. She shifted in her sleep and moaned. Within a few seconds, she turned around and opened her eyes, smiling at me.

“Good morning,” she whispered.

“Good morning beautiful. You want some breakfast?”

“I could go for some of that,” she said yawning.

“Damn gurl, cover that mouth,” I joked, scrunching up my face.

“Boy you crazy, your breath is kicking too,” she said lightly pushing me.

“I’m just kidding gurl, let me get up and start this breakfast because I have to go and meet the case worker for the kid.”

I got out of bed, stretched and brushed my teeth. I took a quick shower and got dressed. Once I was finished, I went and started on breakfast. I fumbled through the cabinets for the right pots and pans and began getting to work. I whipped up some green bell pepper and onion omelets with cheese and crispy bacon. I poured her a glass of orange juice.

“Babe, here you go, you better eat this while it’s hot.”

Zarela sat up in bed as I handed her the hot plate. “Thank you, babe, it looks so good.” She said a quick prayer over her food and began digging in.

“I hope that you enjoy your breakfast because I have to run. I’ll call you once I leave the case worker and let you know what’s up with everything.”

“Okay babe,” Zarela said with a mouth full of food. I rushed out the door. I was nervous as hell meeting up with this case worker, though.

I first made a pit stop to Wal-Mart. I couldn’t leave with my daughter until I had a car seat. I rushed through the packed Wal-Mart and made my way to the baby section. I grabbed a Graco car seat for one hundred dollars and some odds and ends like Good Start formula, diapers and wipes. I then proceeded to checkout. While standing in line, I glanced over and saw Cinnamon’s trifling ass. She was in line with some green ass looking nigga, spending his money. She didn’t see me. I wanted nothing more than to confront her ass about the few hundred that she stole from me but I needed to stay focused. I would handle her hoe ass later.

Once I left Wal-mart, drama free, I drove for twenty minutes. I arrived at Child Protective Services. A nigga was actually nervous. Each step I walked, it felt like my heart starting beating faster and faster. I walked inside the dull building and was greeted by a receptionist.
